Ways to Uninstall or Install xdm on Ubuntu 22.04

xdm manages a collection of X servers, which may be on the local host or remote machines. It provides services similar to those provided by init, getty, and login on character-based terminals: prompting for login name and password, authenticating the user, and running a session. xdm supports XDMCP (X Display Manager Control Protocol) and can also be used to run a chooser process which presents the user with a menu of possible hosts that offer XDMCP display management. In this tutorial, I will show you how to install xdm on Ubuntu 22.04.

Install xdm Ubuntu 22.04

Install xdm using APT

This is one of the popular ways to install any Ubuntu packages because it’s easy to follow, even if you are a newbie in Linux. Following these steps to get xdm on your Ubuntu.

Step 1: The APT package repository cache needs to be updated before you try to install, update, or remove any packages. Obtain new packages from Ubuntu by updating the APT database. Opening the terminal and executing this Linux command:

sudo apt-get -y update

Step 2: Install the package on Ubuntu 22.04. After updating, you can install xdm Ubuntu by executing this command in the terminal.

sudo apt-get install xdm

Install xdm using Aptitude

You must run this command to install Aptitude if you haven’t already done so on Ubuntu.

sudo apt -y install aptitude

Then, you can now install xdm, just following these steps:

Step 1: Update the APT database to download new packages from Ubuntu. Opening the terminal and executing the following Linux command:

sudo apt -y update

Step 2: Install the package on Ubuntu 22.04. After updating, you can install xdm Ubuntu by pasting this command into the terminal and executing it.

sudo aptitude install xdm

Uninstall xdm on Ubuntu 22.04
