How to Install and Uninstall vcmi Ubuntu 22.04

The purpose of VCMI project is to create a free implementation of the “Heroes of Might and Magic 3: In the Wake of Gods” engine to overcome limitations of the original engine for better modding support, higher resolutions, bigger map sizes and extended engine limits. I will show you how to install vcmi on Ubuntu 22.04 in this guide.


  • Operating system: Ubuntu 22.04 or older Ubuntu versions
  • Privileges: Make sure you are able to execute sudo commands.

Prerequisites to install vcmi on Ubuntu 22.04

Install vcmi Ubuntu 22.04

vcmi is one of the popular ways on Ubuntu now so that this tutorial will show you some ways to install it. Choose the one that you think is easy and you can follow.

Install vcmi using APT

This is one of the popular ways to install any Ubuntu packages because it is simple to understand, even if you are a Linux novice. Following these steps to get vcmi on your Ubuntu 22.04.

Step 1: The APT package repository cache needs to be updated before you try to install, update, or remove any packages. Obtain new packages from Ubuntu by updating the APT database. Launching the terminal and entering the following Linux command:

sudo apt-get -y update

Step 2: Start installing the packages on Ubuntu 22.04. You can now install vcmi Ubuntu by executing this command in the terminal.

sudo apt-get install vcmi

Install vcmi using Aptitude

Aptitude allows users to view a list of available packages and manage package installation, upgrade, and removal. If you haven’t already installed it on Ubuntu, run this command to do so.

sudo apt -y install aptitude

After installing, you can now install vcmi by following these steps:

Step 1: Update the APT database to download new packages from Ubuntu. Opening the terminal and executing this Linux command:

sudo apt-get -y update

Step 2: Start the package installation on Ubuntu 22.04. After updating the system, you can install vcmi Ubuntu by pasting this command into the terminal and pressing Enter.

sudo aptitude -y install vcmi

Install vcmi using Snap

Snap is a software package and deployment system that uses self-contained packages, or snaps, to deliver software to users. Therefore, Snap enables you to install vcmi snap easily. Simply pasting this command into the terminal and pressing Enter to run it.

sudo snap install vcmi --edge

Install vcmi from Ubuntu Software Center

If you use Ubuntu, the Ubuntu Software Center should be your next choice, because it provides many applications, including vcmi. Following these steps to begin the installation:

Step 1: Open Software Center from Applications menu

You must use the Super + A key combination. It will display the application menu, where you can see the installed applications on your system and search for Ubuntu Software and open it.

Step 2: Look for vcmi

Because the Ubuntu Software Center contains many packages, we must type vcmi into the search box, and the results will appear. After choosing the package, you can now install vcmi by clicking the Install button.

Uninstall vcmi on Ubuntu 22.04

Have you ever thought that uninstalling an application from Ubuntu is difficult? You are mistaken; Anyone can easily uninstall any program, not just vcmi.
