Ways to Install or Uninstall steam on Ubuntu 22.04

Steam (https://www.steampowered.com) is a software content delivery system developed by Valve software (https://www.valvesoftware.com). There is some free software available, but for the most part the content delivered is non-free. I will show you how to install steam on Ubuntu 22.04 in this guide.

  • OS: steam needs Ubuntu 22.04 to work
  • Privileges: Verify that you can execute the sudo commands line.

Install steam Ubuntu 22.04

steam is one of the popular ways on Ubuntu now so that this tutorial will show you how to install it in various ways. Choose the one that you think is easy and you can follow.

Install steam using APT

This is a popular method for installing Ubuntu packages because it’s easy to follow, even if you are a newbie in Linux. Following these steps to get steam on your Ubuntu.

Step 1: You must update the APT package repository cache before attempting to install, update, or remove any packages. Update the APT database to download new packages from Ubuntu. Opening the terminal and executing this Linux command:

sudo apt -y update

Step 2: Start the package installation on Ubuntu 22.04. After updating, you can install steam Ubuntu by executing this command in the terminal.

sudo apt -y install steam

Install steam using Aptitude

Users can manage their installation, upgrade, and removal of packages with Aptitude and view a list of the packages that are currently available. If you haven’t already installed it on Ubuntu, run this command to do so.

sudo apt install aptitude

After installing it, you can now install steam by following these steps:

sudo snap install steam --beta

Uninstall steam on Ubuntu 22.04

Have you ever thought about how difficult it is to uninstall an application from Ubuntu? You are mistaken; anyone can easily uninstall any program, not just a package.

You can uninstall steam on Ubuntu by running this command if you installed it using APT or Aptitude.

sudo apt remove --auto-remove steam

If you want to uninstall steam and remove its data and dependencies, you can also run the following command:

sudo apt autoremove --purge steam

If you used Snap to install steam, you could follow this step:

sudo snap remove steam
