Ways to Install or Uninstall openttd on Ubuntu 22.04

OpenTTD is a reimplementation of the Microprose game “Transport Tycoon Deluxe” with lots of new features and enhancements. In this tutorial, I will show you how to install openttd on Ubuntu 22.04.

Prerequisites to install

  • OS: openttd needs Ubuntu 22.04 to work
  • Privileges: Check that you can run sudo commands.

Prerequisites to install openttd on Ubuntu 22.04

Install openttd Ubuntu 22.04

openttd is one of the popular ways on Ubuntu now so that this tutorial will show you some ways to install it. Choose the one that you think is easy and you can follow.

Install openttd using APT

This is a popular method for installing Ubuntu packages because it’s easy to follow, even if you are a newbie in Linux. Following these instructions to get openttd on your Ubuntu.

Step 1: The APT package repository cache needs to be updated before you try to install, update, or remove any packages. Update the APT database to fetch new packages from Ubuntu. Opening the terminal and executing the following Linux command:

sudo apt-get update

Step 2: Start installing the packages on Ubuntu 22.04. You can now install openttd Ubuntu by executing this command in the terminal.

sudo apt -y install openttd

Install openttd using Aptitude

You must run this command to install Aptitude if you haven’t already done so on Ubuntu.

sudo apt-get install aptitude

After that, you can now install openttd by following these steps:

sudo apt-get -y update

Install openttd using Snap

Snap is a software package and deployment system that uses self-contained packages, or snaps, to deliver software to users. Therefore, Snap enables you to install openttd snap easily. Simply copying and pasting this command into the terminal to run it.

sudo snap install openttd

Uninstall openttd on Ubuntu 22.04

If you installed openttd using APT or Aptitude, you could uninstall openttd on Ubuntu by executing this command

sudo apt remove --auto-remove openttd

You can also execute this command if you want to uninstall openttd and remove its data and dependencies:

sudo apt autoremove --purge openttd

If you used Snap to install openttd, you can execute this command:

sudo snap remove openttd
