How to Install or Uninstall ns2 on Ubuntu 22.04

Provides substantial support for simulation of TCP, routing, and multicast protocols over wired and wireless (local and satellite) networks. Ns-2 is written in C++ and an Object oriented version of Tcl called OTcl. In this tutorial, I will show you ways to install ns2 Ubuntu 22.04.

Prerequisites to install

  • Operating system: Ubuntu 22.04 or older versions with more than 2GB RAM
  • Privileges: Verify that you can execute the sudo commands line.

Install ns2 Ubuntu 22.04

ns2 is one of the popular ways on Ubuntu now so that this tutorial will show you how to install it in various ways. Choose the one that you think is easy and you can follow.

Install ns2 using APT

This is one of the popular ways to install any Ubuntu packages because it is simple to understand, even if you are a Linux novice. Following these steps to install ns2 on your Ubuntu 22.04.

Step 1: Update the APT database to download new packages from Ubuntu. Opening the terminal and executing the following Linux command:

sudo apt-get update

Step 2: Start the package installation on Ubuntu 22.04. After updating the system, you can install ns2 Ubuntu by pasting this command into the terminal and executing it.

sudo apt -y install ns2

Install ns2 using Aptitude

Aptitude allows users to view a list of available packages and manage package installation, upgrade, and removal. If you haven’t already installed it on Ubuntu, run this command to do so.

sudo apt-get -y install aptitude

After installing aptitude, you can now install ns2, just following these steps:

Step 1: The APT package repository cache needs to be updated before you try to install, update, or remove any packages. Obtain new packages from Ubuntu by updating the APT database. Launching the terminal and entering the following Linux command:

sudo apt -y update

Uninstall ns2 on Ubuntu 22.04
