Ways to Install and Uninstall m4 Ubuntu 22.04

GNU m4' is an implementation of the traditional UNIX macro processor. It is mostly SVR4 compatible, although it has some extensions (for example, handling more than 9 positional parameters to macros). m4’ also has builtin functions for including files, running shell commands, doing arithmetic, etc. Autoconf needs GNU m4' for generating configure’ scripts, but not for running them. I will show you how to install m4 on Ubuntu 22.04 in this guide.

Install m4 using APT

This is one of the popular ways to install any Ubuntu packages because it’s easy to follow, even if you are a newbie in Linux. Following these steps to get m4 on your Ubuntu 22.04.

Step 1: Update the APT database to fetch new packages from Ubuntu. Launching the terminal and entering the following Linux command:

sudo apt-get -y update

Step 2: Start installing the packages on Ubuntu 22.04. You can now install m4 Ubuntu by executing this command in the terminal.

sudo apt-get install m4

Install m4 using Aptitude

You must run this command to install Aptitude if you haven’t already done so on Ubuntu.

sudo apt-get -y install aptitude

After that, you can now install m4, just following these steps:

Step 1: Update the APT database to download new packages from Ubuntu. Launch the terminal and enter the following Linux command:

sudo apt-get update

Step 2: Start the package installation on Ubuntu 22.04. After updating, you can install m4 Ubuntu by pasting this command into the terminal and pressing Enter.

sudo aptitude -y install m4

Uninstall m4 on Ubuntu 22.04
