How to Uninstall or Install 4pane on Ubuntu 22.04

4pane is a dual twin-pane file manager: directories and files are displayed in separate panes. By default two pairs of these twin-panes are displayed at a time, allowing easy dragging or pasting. In this guide, I will show you how to install 4pane on Ubuntu 22.04.


  • Operating system: Ubuntu 22.04 or older versions with more than 2GB RAM
  • Privileges: Ensure that you are able to execute the sudo commands line.

Prerequisites to install 4pane on Ubuntu 22.04

Install 4pane Ubuntu 22.04

Install 4pane using APT

This is one of the popular ways to install any Ubuntu packages because it is simple to understand, even if you are a Linux novice. Following these instructions to get 4pane on your Ubuntu.

Step 1: The APT package repository cache needs to be updated before you try to install, update, or remove any packages. Update the APT database to fetch new packages from Ubuntu. Opening the terminal and executing the following Linux command:

sudo apt-get -y update

Step 2: Start the package installation on Ubuntu 22.04. After updating, you can install 4pane Ubuntu by pasting this command into the terminal and executing it.

sudo apt -y install 4pane

Install 4pane using Aptitude
